Earlier this year, 109 projects and programs were submitted to the Urban Land Institute Regional Awards and of those, 27 were named as winners, including Nightingale Marrickville for the Asia Pacific.
These winners were then considered for the ULI Global Awards for Excellence held in Washington, USA on 24 October.
ULI began the Awards for Excellence program in 1979 to recognise truly superior development efforts in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Winning projects represent the highest standards of achievement in the land use profession.
From this impressive field, the jury ultimately selected the seven global winners.
We are pleased to announce that Nightingale Marrickville was one of seven projects and programs to pick up the Global Award for Excellence including two from North America, three from Europe and two from Asia Pacific.
Jury Chair Doug Voigt, Partner, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) Chicago shared in his remarks, “This year’s finalists demonstrate how pioneering developments and programs can create more inclusive cities through contextual design, thoughtful implementation, and innovative funding models.
“Each of the winners exhibits a deep commitment to tackling the most pressing local issues and positively impacting their communities and environments. Together, they showcase a diversity of inventive strategies for transforming cities around the world, serving as replicable examples on both regional and global scales that advance ULI’s core mission.”
On receiving the news, Daniel Dwyer CEO Fresh Hope Communities said, “To be amongst winners from across the world is a humbling achievement. We are on a journey of learning in this space and are grateful for the partnership of Nightingale Housing, SJB architects and their belief in this project. We are also thankful to ULI for their tremendous support. We overcame many hurdles in delivering this community to Marrickville, but our commitment to providing a small, but significant solution to the issue of affordable housing was unwavering. My hope is that we get to deliver more housing like this and that we inspire other not-for-profits like us to do the same.”
David Tolman, General Manager Group Accommodation and Housing said, “It’s been a steep learning curve for us at Fresh Hope Communities as we partnered with Nightingale Housing to occupy our first Affordable Housing project with residents. Having gleaned from their experiences and expertise of – from the build, to the ballot, occupancy and most importantly—community cultivation, this is now a solid benchmark for us for any future endeavours.”
This latest award has capped of a stunning first year for Nightingale Marrickville. Thank you to all our staff who have been instrumental in bringing this development to fruition.
