On 26 January public holiday, The Tops sponsored a team of its most adventurous team members in the annual Wollongong Aquathon event.
The event has been supporting local charities and organisations for over 22 years including LifeLine South Coast, this year’s featured charity. Held at the picturesque Wollongong harbour, the event is arguably Australia’s biggest swim-run, attracting a fun all-age crowd and hugs the coastline for the run leg of the event.
Wearing ‘Team Tops’ shirts, our entrants competed in two of the events – Long aqua (900m swim and 7km run) – Short aqua (400m swim and 3km run). Two of our staff Raki – Outdoor Program Team manager and Tops Team Aqua event organiser along with Ray – Outdoor Program Guide participated in the long event and thankfully survived.
All the other team members paired up and participated in the short aqua course with one member doing the swim leg and the other the run. Everyone completed the course, gave their all and had a great time.
Perhaps next year, we’ll expand our team to include more staff from our other services across Fresh Hope Communities. It’s a great way to challenge yourself, the connect with your peers, support a great local cause and have fun along the way, so watch this space!
