A tribute to our volunteers

18 May, 2026

In every community, there are unassuming heroes whose impact is felt in the smallest, most meaningful moments. A listening ear, a shared laugh, a reassuring presence.

Week in week out, volunteers across Fresh Hope Communities’ residential care, respite and retirement communities give of their time to serve others. They reflect the very best of our collective values: kindness in action, integrity in commitment, meaningful connection and optimism in the belief that every moment of care matters.

They come different walks of life, backgrounds, and experience, and yet are united by a deep respect for the dignity, wellbeing, and choice of those they support. Through simple acts of generosity, they help ensure that people feel seen, heard, and valued for who they are.

They can be seen playing piano, teaching art and craft classes, providing companionship and entertainment, gardening and assisting with all kinds of activities, supporting staff in their roles.

Volunteering in aged care is not simply an act of service; it’s an act of intentional connection. They hold space for those in our community who have sown into families and communities their whole lives. They honour each person’s story, upholding their independence and choices, and bringing warmth and humanity into everyday interactions. They create spaces where joy is felt, and wellbeing is nurtured not only through care, but through companionship, respect, and understanding.

Our volunteers are true pillars of our communities. Through every moment they give, they help create communities that are more inclusive, more respectful, and more deeply caring.

This National Volunteers Week, Fresh Hope Communities celebrates and thanks you. For the time you give, the dignity you uphold, and the wellbeing you help foster and for the unassuming, yet powerful ways in which you make our communities stronger.
