We would like to welcome a new Church to the Fresh Hope Family which officially launched in Engadine on the weekend. With the aim of bringing fresh hope to the community, this Church is an exciting outcome that marks the end of a year long process to merge two churches into one.

Engadine Church of Christ and Engadine Community Church have combined their resources, revitalised an existing Church building and established a clear vision for their new church, which is called ‘Connect’.

Connect has a vision to:

engage the wider community in intentional mission
connect people into the Kingdom of God in Christ & create environments that
restore people into relationship with God and the Kingdom of God
equip partners in the Vision for mission and ministry serving Christ

Pastors Glenn Baigent and Mike McGarrity see it as a great opportunity to build on the progress made after combining the Churches Youth Groups in 2014. Ian Duncum (Fresh Hope Ministry Leader – Church Engagement), spoke at the launch service, and was also invited to guide the process of the churches coming together over the past year.

As part of underlining the centrality of their new vision, Connect has invited Australian swimmer Daniel Smith to tell the story of his journey of restoration. Smith went from the heights of great expectations in the Australian swimming community, to the depths of homelessness and addiction. For five years he lost sight of everything positive in his life, facing multiple charges and potential jail time. Then, amazingly, Daniel engaged in a recovery program, got back on track, connected with Christ, and experienced gracious restoration to the Australian Swim Team. In the last couple of years Daniel has worked hard in training, beginning to recover his former potential, and has returned to competitive swimming. He received a Bronze medal in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay team earlier this year and then won a Gold medal in the 200m individual freestyle in the FINA World Cup in Paris this August. He’s currently in training for the Rio Olympics.

Daniel will speak to Engadine’s Youth from 7pm tonight and in the Connect Sunday morning service at 9:30am on Sunday 6th December. Both events will be at 131 Woronora Road, for further information contact the office on (02) 9520 0990.
