Safe Church Training

We are moving forward at Fresh Hope Mission & Ministry! We are entering into an agreement with the NSW/ACT Baptist Association to partner with them in adopting their Safe Church/Child Protection training program – Creating Safe Spaces. 

Creating Safe Spaces is an excellent safe church training program, complying with all current legislation, and even includes responses to the recent Royal Commission into Institutional Child Sexual Abuse. It is endorsed by the SCTA, who are the peak body for safe church training in Australia.

For a person to get their safe church/child protection training completed, there is a two-stage process:

1. An online Creating Safe Spaces course. This course can be completed in one sitting, or over several stages. It is the knowledge base that our people need to understand and realise. This online course costs $10 per person.
2. A face-to-face Creating Safe Spaces workshop, hosted at a local church. This is a 3-hour workshop, where people have an opportunity to learn further and discuss their learnings from the online course. The workshop is $25 per person. There is an additional 30min section for church eldership/board members and policymakers (if the local church requests)

One of the best features of CSS, is the balance between an online and face-to-face components. An online component adds some flexibility to the delivery of the course, and shortens the amount of time required for face-to-face workshop. A face-to-face workshop gives our people opportunities to ask questions, and to receive an understanding of the necessity of the training in a way that online cannot achieve. We want our Fresh Hope churches to be safe for all people. Creating Safe Spaces will help us do it better, and keep us on the same page.

We encourage all ministers, leaders and those involved in children’s ministry or youth ministry to undertake safe church training every three years. If you would like to organise a workshop for your church to host, then please make contact with the Creating Safe Spaces coordinator, Joseph Lam on (02) 9868 9221 or email JLam@nswactbaptists.org.au. Joseph can help you to organise a workshop, and organise a trainer. Workshops require a minimum of 20 people, and a maximum of 50 people, so co-hosting with another local Baptist church might be a good idea for some.

We currently have several Fresh Hope people being trained to conduct workshops from the early next year. In the meantime, you can still host workshops, as our Baptist friends are happy to conduct our workshops. For more information, feel free to contact Ross Stewart.
