A few weeks ago, residents of Forestville Retirement Community accompanied by Community Manager Penny McIntyre, enjoyed a trip on the NSW Metro service out to Tallawong in the northwest. Hopping on the bus which stops directly outside the retirement community, followed by a quick change to an express bus to Chatswood, the residents found themselves on the metro line.
The residents were amazed at the speed, comfort and quietness of the metro and loved seeing all the new developments going up along the line. Disembarking at Tallawong, which is currently the end of the metro line, they stopped for a coffee and slice of cake from the nearby café and marvelled at all the construction happening at the station which has quickly become a much-needed transport link to the city. Then it was back on the metro to Chatswood where they stopped for a quick lunch before heading home.
95-year-old Barbara couldn’t believe the tunnels and how easy it was. Dell said it gave her the confidence to catch public transport and is even planning a trip via the metro, changing at Epping, to go to Newcastle, and two others have made a date with family members to meet them at a metro station for an outing where there is a shopping centre alongside.
All are keen for the new stations heading into the city to open this year and further day trips will definitely be on the cards.
The outing was thoroughly enjoyed, especially with the fare being only $2.50 each for the day’s travel. The perks of being in retirement!
