Barrio-Fiesta at Green Hills: Celebrating Filipino Culture

3 Jul, 2025

Green Hills Residential Care Service recently came alive with colour, music, and joy as we celebrated our Filipino staff through a vibrant Barrio-Fiesta.

With a history dating back to the early 1950s, Barrio-Fiesta is a traditional Filipino celebration which highlights the cultural heritage and communal spirit of Filipino villages or “barrios”. At its core, it’s about family, food, connection and culture.

The event began with a heartfelt prayer led by Registered Nurse (RN), Melody M., and warm welcome remarks from RN, Melody P. Hosted by our wonderful Homemakers Christine and Vighuel, the celebration featured a stirring historical presentation on Philippine Independence Day by our RN-in-Charge, Nila.

Highlights included a performance by the Newcastle Filipino Choir, an ABBA singalong, and a lively dance performance by Nila, Nova and Ritchell.

Residents and relatives gave rave reviews, praising the energy, commitment, and cultural pride shown by our team—a truly memorable celebration of community and heritage.

Giving our staff and residents the opportunity to learn from each other’s cultures and celebrate diversity is something we embrace and encourage at Fresh Hope Communities.

Thank you to everyone who made this wonderful celebration come alive.
