RU OK? Day: A conversation can change a life

10 Sep, 2026

Today is RU OK? Day, an annual day to remind us that checking in with the people in your world and asking, ‘Are you ok’? shouldn’t just be a yearly tick box.

It’s designed to encourage us to connect in a meaningful way with the people in our world and reach out to those who may be experiencing personal difficulties.

Investing time in our personal and work relationships can help us become more discerning or alert to signs of distress or difficulty. By simply reaching out, you can help prevent a situation from becoming a crisis.

Sometimes, one of the barriers to having a conversation is feeling like you won’t know what to say. The good news is you don’t have to have all the answers. Actively listening and pointing them to appropriate pathways for support, and checking in afterwards, can make all the difference.

As we know here at Fresh Hope Communities, belonging, connection, kindness and community, are all intrinsic human needs. We relentlessly pursue this for our residents, clients and guests on a daily basis because we know that having a place where you can belong and people to talk to who support and care for you, are the things that can change the course of a life.

RU OK? has a wonderful tool kit of resources for starting a conversation or navigating challenging ones. They also provide pathways for help that someone you know may benefit from.

Why don’t you take a moment today to think about someone who has been on your mind and make a plan to connect with them over the coming week.
