The men of Highfield Court and Green Hills Retirement Community knew only three things about their special Father’s Day outing: the date, the time, and that they needed to sign up quickly because the bus had limited seats.
Where were they going?
Nobody knew.
What would they be doing?
That remained a closely guarded secret.
As the day approached, excitement and speculation grew. Theories ranged from a fishing trip to a brewery tour, while others were convinced they were heading somewhere completely unexpected. Whatever the destination, the mystery was all part of the fun.
On the morning of the adventure, Brendan proudly prepared for the maiden voyage of the village bus. Beside him was his trusted teammate Craig, ready to assist with whatever the day might bring. Although two participants were unfortunately unable to attend at the last minute, eight eager adventurers climbed aboard, joining Brendan and Craig to make a team of ten for the day’s expedition.
With plenty of laughter and good-natured banter, the bus rolled out and headed towards the beautiful Hunter Valley. The mystery destination was finally revealed when they arrived at the Hunter Valley Adventure Centre in Pokolbin.
The excitement levels immediately rose as the men discovered they would be taking part in axe throwing and Laser Clay Target Shooting. For some, it was their first time trying these activities, while others were quick to claim they had hidden talents just waiting to be discovered!
The axe throwing brought out everyone’s competitive spirit as participants took turns aiming for the target. There were cheers for the bullseyes, plenty of encouragement for near misses, and lots of laughter when axes occasionally had a mind of their own.
Next came the Laser Clay Target Shooting, where residents tested their aim and reflexes against flying clay targets. Friendly rivalry soon developed as scores were compared and stories grew taller with every round. Whether they hit every target or only a few, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and sense of adventure.
After an action-packed morning, appetites had certainly been worked up. It was time to climb back aboard the bus and continue the journey to the Hedon Greta Hotel for a well-earned lunch.
The atmosphere during lunch was relaxed and cheerful. Tales of spectacular shots, impressive axe throws, and near victories were shared around the table. Friendships were strengthened, memories were made, and the mystery outing proved to be an overwhelming success.
As Brendan steered the bus back towards Green Hills and Highfield Court, the happy chatter continued all the way home. As they stepped off the bus there were smiling faces, grateful thanks, and widespread agreement that the day had been a fantastic adventure.
